Hey guys,
This week I had to travel from the great white north to beautiful and sunny Austin Texas, so sorry for the lack of posting lately. I am working at our satellite office down here and staying at a hotel. Needless to say, travelling can really put a kink in the old workout routine....because it is ALL ABOUT ROUTINE.
Monday night I couldn't find a gym, so I did the following body weight workout in my hotel room.
- Mobility Work
- Dynamic Warm-up (push-ups, jumping jacks, sit-ups)
- Lunges 3 x 20 each leg
- Twisting Mountain Climbers 3 x 10 each side
- One Legged Deadlifts 3 x 20 each leg
- One Legged Squats 3 x 20 each leg (I am not flexible enough to do pistols)
- Feet Elevated Push-ups 3 x 20
- Bent Over Chair Row 3 x 20 (stand on the bed, bend over, row a chair as if it is a light barbell)
- Plyometrics x 10 (Sit on your legs then jump up to your feet explosively)
This workout took me about 30 minutes and was meant to make me burn off some fat by elevating my metabolism. I always feel better after doing some unilateral leg work so when I can't hit the gym it is a good time to do that. Body weight drills are way better than repeating the same motion over and over on an exercise machine.
Today I prepared myself better and hit the local Gold's Gym. What a sweet gym! It even...are you ready for this...had KETTLEBELLS! This was the first time I ever saw kettlebells at a commercial gym and I was impressed. Some dude was banging out Renegade Rows so I didn't get to play with them, but whatever, I get enough time with them at home. Anyways, the workout was pretty vanilla:
- Front Squats 5x5,4,3,2,1
- Romanian Deadlift 4x10
- Bench Press 5x5
- Row 4x10
- Planks 3x as long as possible
- Dips 1x as many as possible
- Chins 1x as many as possible
- Hyper Extensions 2x as many as possible
I am not sure how long this workout took, probably about an hour. The front squats were pretty intense and then this regressed from there due to poor energy levels.
My eating has sucked! I am eating at restaurants 3 times a day and it is hurting me! I can't handle all the sodium or calories and it is making me miss my Fiance's home cooking.
One thing I did was hit the grocery store and pick up some almonds, apples, oranges, and pre-cut veggies. This helps me eat throughout the day so I don't starve then overeat at a restaurant. The fiber and nutrition make me feel a lot better also.
If anyone is in the Austin area this week and wants to throw some kettlebells around, let me know and I will be glad to hook up.
