Full Body Barbell Fun

Sometimes you just get so busy that workouts are tough to sneak in. When that happens you have to make your time in the gym count as much as possible. Even for a workout nut like me I run into bad luck and sometimes have to miss training sessions for silly things like work, family, or health.

For example, I was sick Monday and Tuesday and knew I was going to work 12 hours on Thursday so Wednesday was the only day this week I could get some real lifting in. With only one day to get huge I decided to do a full body workout. Always a good idea on paper, but never fun in practice!

Here is the workout I did Wednesday:
  • Platform Deadlifts (deadlifts while standing on a wide 45lbs plate)
    • 5x5 (absolute failure on my last set)
  • Barbell Clean and Press
    • 3x5
  • Pull-Ups
    • 3x10
Platform deadlifts are a great way to get stronger and build some muscle mass at the same time. The extended range of motion increases the time under tension and the number of muscles incorporated. Basically it is one of those humbling exercises that is hard to do but makes you large son!

The cleans and pull-ups were tough to get in after a hard deadlift session so I cut the volume a bit and just got it done as quickly as possible. Overall a challenging workout that hits everybody part and makes you one sore and hungry man the next day.
